About Earshift Music

Earshift Music is an artist-led independent label dedicated to Australian jazz and improvised music, with a strong international profile across Europe, the UK, and North America. The label supports distinctive creative voices through carefully curated releases, international distribution, touring, and long-term artist development. Earshift is currently transitioning to a not-for-profit model to ensure long-term sustainability and sector impact.

Role Overview

Earshift Music is seeking a Label Manager to oversee scheduling, artist liaison, and project administration across the label’s release and presentation activities. This is a hands-on coordination role focused on ensuring projects are delivered smoothly, professionally, and on time.

The Label Manager will work closely with the Director and external partners (including marketing agency The Annex) to support artist campaigns, administration, reporting, and communications. This role represents a critical investment in the label’s operational capacity, allowing the Director to focus on strategic leadership, A&R, and long-term development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate release schedules and project timelines across multiple artists

  • Act as the primary point of contact for artists, ensuring clear and timely communication

  • Liaise with distributors, manufacturers, publicists, and service providers

  • Manage metadata, content uploads, and delivery to distribution platforms

  • Coordinate marketing schedules, assets, and reporting in collaboration with external partners

  • Assist with grant administration, budgets, acquittals, and stakeholder communication

  • Support the development of philanthropic, educational, and sector partnerships

  • Maintain organised records, workflows, and internal documentation

Skills and Experience

  • Strong project management and organisational skills

  • Experience in music, arts administration, or creative industries (label experience highly regarded)

  • Confident written and verbal communication

  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and meet deadlines

  • Familiarity with digital music distribution, metadata, and release workflows (desirable)

  • Comfortable working independently while collaborating within a small, artist-led organisation

Intended Outcomes

  • Improved workflow and communication across label projects

  • Enhanced artist support and professional administration

  • Greater efficiency in project delivery and reporting

  • Strengthened financial, operational, and strategic capacity

Future Opportunities

This role is initially funded on a project basis but is designed with sustainability in mind. The intention is for the position to be maintained beyond the contract period through a combination of label revenue, philanthropic partnerships, and ongoing growth.
