Jeremy Rose - Project Infinity: Live at Phoenix Central Park

“Riveting improvisations from one of our best composers.”

★★★★1/2 John Shand, Sydney Morning Herald

Earshift Music director Jeremy Rose’s album Project Infinity: Live at Phoenix Central Park captures the group’s performance at the award-winning Sydney performance space. Intent on exploring the post-jazz, post-everything sound world, they create a fresh perspective to music from torchbearers such as The Necks and Tangents, drawing upon elements of electro-soul, hip-hop, psychedelic rock, abstract soundscapes and avant-garde jazz.

Featuring keys player Novak Manoljovic (Ngaiire) drummer Tully Ryan (Godtet) and electronics artist Ben Carey, the group explores the infinite possibilities of music expression with zero gravity in a set of spontaneous music.

Assembled for a special event at Phoenix Central Park Performance Space in April 2021, this unique combination of some of Sydney’s finest improviers had immediate chemistry. “Improvisation is all about creating dialogue with the musicians, the space you are performing in, as well as with one's own ideas” says Rose. "We have infinite musical choices in any particular moment — to repeat, to change, to respond. To let oneself go and be totally in the moment can feel like you’re free falling - free falling towards infinity.”

Rose is at the forefront of an exciting wave of Australian jazz and adventurous music. He has performed throughout Australia, Europe and the UK. His collaboration with drummers Simon Barker, Chloe Kim, Disruption: The Voice of Drums premiered at the 2021 Sydney Festival to wide acclaim. As founder of the record label Earshift Music, Rose has fostered a community of creative musicians throughout Australasia which NYC Jazz Records describes as “representing the future of Australian music... hell bent on pushing the very definition of jazz.”
