VAZESH FURTHER SPIN THEIR MUSICAL CHEMISTRY ON TAPESTRY

Featuring: Jeremy Rose saxophone, bass clarinet, Hamed Sadeghi tar, Lloyd Swanton bass
Out 8 November on Earshift Music

Captivating…. the uncanny effect being of three human voices singing in harmony. ★★★★
— Sydney Morning Herald, John Shand

Following on from the warm reception for their debut album The Sacred Key - which was nominated for two major Australian music awards - Vazesh return with their exquisite new album, Tapestry. Recorded, like their debut, live in concert, Tapestry showcases not just further aspects of Vazesh’s multifaceted palette, but also a deepening of the musical bonhomie and telepathy between these three master musicians – Sydney-born jazz/improv mavens Jeremy Rose on bass clarinet, tenor and soprano saxophones and Lloyd Swanton on double bass, and Iranian-born Hamed Sadeghi on tar.

Together, these three musicians pool their rigorous training and deep traditions to mine rich seams of overlap.

"It's a natural gathering of forces that dynamically and authentically traverses a multitude of different idioms, cultures and colors by uniting at the lowest common denominator up to the greatest...It's an exceptional accomplishment to make music sound this easy.” All About Jazz

Exquisitely recorded by Peter Nelson at the Annandale Creative Arts Centre, and mixed by Richie Belkner at Free Energy Device, Tapestry bountifully portrays sonorous and joyous collisions between an ancient, venerable musical tradition, and the very latest in contemporary improv.

Bassist Lloyd Swanton elaborates “This wonderful trio started with a phone call from Jeremy, asking if I’d like to have a play with this Persian tar player he’d been jamming with. I was intrigued, and the three of us clicked from the very first notes. Since then, every time we’ve played, I’ve been astonished at the fertile, exotic areas we arrive at, from such simple beginnings. Improvising with Jeremy and Hamed in Vazesh accesses something very, very deep inside me, and this album illustrates that subconscious depth superbly.”

“This concert had something special about it,” shares Jeremy, “a chemistry between us that was both relaxed yet energetic, interactive and yet static in other regards. It’s a treat to be able to share it with you.”

“buoyant invention; never seeming to flag or at want for new ideas, he is that rare thing, an improvisor you want to hear more from.”
